Summer Activities : Work and Travel USA

Program Information

Overall Program This University Exchange Program permits students to learn about the lifestyle and culture of Americans through working during the summer vacation in the USA. According to American law, students who participate can work legally in many kinds of employment for 4 months. The Overseas Educational Group and a relevant US exchange organization(s) will cooperate to select a quality company or organization that complies with their employment criteria.

Purpose

To support and encourage non-American citizens or non-American residence students to experience travel in the USA and also gain working experience through seasonal jobs like young Americans do. As the result of these work experiences, students will have the income to support their expenses during their stay and travel in the USA. Moreover, students will have the chance to practice English in their work place and during their travel. The program's objects are to assist students to spend their summer break in useful ways and to encourage students to learn from actual experiences outside of universities. Thus, students will learn much from work experiences, from adjusting to a new society, and from accepting responsibility.

Application

:: Qualifications ::


Thai nationality
Age between 18 - 25 years old
Have the student status of at least a first year Bachelor Degree or a Master Degree at the date of application. The final year student are not eligible for the program.
Have a GPA not lower than 2.50. - Have good English communication skills.
Have a good human relation assessment.
Have a good attitude toward working and be ready to work hard.
Be able to learn and adjust to living with others in different cultures.
Students can submit their English test score of TOEFL 520/198, TOEIC 650, IELTS 5.0 instead of taking the Michigan Test.


:: Application Documents ::

Pre-application form ,1 inch black and white or color photo (Polaroid or sticker not acceptable and the photo must not be older than 6 months)
Copy of un-expired English test score (TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS) when this is used in lieu of a current English test.
Application Date and Test Please ask for further information from officers since there are some differences in each program and in each season.


Working Places

The organization / working places that accept program participants to work in the US summer are most likely to be opened seasonally or places that need extra employees temporarily in high season periods. Most of the positions are service or casual jobs. The work establishments that collaborate with Overseas Educational Group in accepting program participant are mostly theme parks, national parks, resorts and hotels.

The jobs in the theme park are of ten varied and include Food Service / Game Operators / Ride Operators / Merchandise / Grounds / Area hosts & hostesses.
The jobs in the national parks, resorts and hotels are in the Hotel and Tourism business field and include Front Desk / Food & Beverage / Retail / Housekeeping/ Reservations.


In the first program of 2000 and second program of 2001, Overseas Educational Group cooperated with the theme park "Busch Gardens", Williamsburg, Virginia. After finishing this program, Busch Gardens officials showed real appreciation for the quality of Thai students. Therefore, a lot more working places in USA have come to know the reputation of Thai students and become interested in our program and in accepting students to work in their organizations. Because of this, in the third program for 2002, some Thai students will have a chance to work in the theme park "Six Flags", Jackson, New Jersey; "Grand Canyon National Park", Arizona; and "White Mountain", Vermont, etc.


Program Participation Process

Students apply to attend the program after getting the program information.
Take tests in Thai and English.
Interview.
Announce the program participant list.
Parent and student conference for the confirmation of participation in the program.
Students submit the actual application with other documents to request DS-2019's.
Students submit documents for visa requests. ท Requests for visa submitted to Embassy.
Pre-departure orientation.
Receive visa with the plane ticket.
Depart.
